Alwyn Court, at 180 West 58th Street, is an apartment block in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Its intricate façade in the French Renaissance style made it a New York City Landmark, a recognition that was officially accorded in 1966.

Alwyn Court was built in 1908. It is 12 storey tall, and originally contained luxurious 14-room apartments. During the Depression these mammoth apartments were subdivided into small quarters.

The most interesting feature of Alwyn Court is its interior facade, done in mersmerising detail. It is in the style of François I, with a crowned salamander as its symbol. Inside Alwyn Court is a courtyard which was decorated by artist Richard Haas, who decorated the plain walls to mimic carved stonework.

How to reach Alwyn Court

Take the N, Q, R or W train to the 57th Street subway station. Walk north along Seventh Avenue until the intersection with West 58th Street. Alwyn Court is at the corner of Seventh Avenue and West 58th Street, on the east side of Seventh Avenue.
