Metro Atlanta is a metropolitan area comprising 28 counties. With a population of 5.5 million people it is the 9th largest metropolitan area in the United States.

Atlanta is the headquarters of several major world-renowned American companies including Coca-Cola, AT&T and Delta Air Lines. The headquarters of Home Depot and UPS are also located in the vicinity of Atlanta.

Budget Travel to Atlanta

Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is said to be the busiest airport in the world, as measured by domestic passenger traffic. Arriving at the airport, you can take the MARTA Rail to most places in downtown Atlanta. The ticket is only US$2.00 one way.

By Train
Atlanta is linked by Amtrak trains to New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, among others. The train leaves New York City at 3:00 pm and arrives in Atlanta at 9:00 am the following day.

By Bus
Greyhound Buses provides bus services connecting many US cities to Atlanta.

By Car
The main interstates highway linking Atlanta are the I-75, which runs from Detroit to Florida; the I-85, which runs from the Mid-Atlantic to New Orleans, and the I-20, which runs from Texas to South Carolina. For real time traffic information, call 511 in Georgia.

MARTA, which stands for Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority, operates the buses and rapid transit trains in the city. Payment for your rides is done using the Breezecard, a stored-value card that you can use for both single journeys and multiple journeys.
