Beekman Tower is a 76-story skyscraper at 8 Spruce Street, Manhattan, New York City. It is also called New York by Gehry, as it was designed by famous architect, Frank Gehry. The skyscraper is located to the south of City Hall Plaza, near Brooklyn Bridge.
Construction of Beekman Tower began in 2006. It was completed at the end of 2010, and opened in February, 2011. The tower is 876 ft (267 m) tall, making it one of the tallest residential towers in the western hemisphere, about the same height at Aqua in Chicago.
Within Beekman Tower is a public elementary school which occupies the first five floors of the building, and includes a 5000-sq-ft outdoor play space on the fourth floor roof deck. There are 903 units of luxury condominiums ranging in size from 500 to 1,600 sq ft. There is also space for a branch of the New York Downtown Hospital.
Getting there
The Fulton Street Subway Stations are served by the 2, 3, A and C trains. There is a bit of walking from these stations. You can also take the 4, 5, 6 and 6X trains to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall Subway Station and walk south from there.
