Belasco Theatre is a theater in the Times Square district in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It is located at 111 West 44th Street. When it was completed in 1907 by producer David Belasco, it was the state-of-the-art theater in its time. The theater was decorated with original Tiffany glass and Everett Shinn murals.
Originally Belasco Theatre was known as Stuyvesant Theatre when it opened on 16 October, 1907. It was only three years later that Belasco attached his own name to the place.
It is said that the ghost of David Belasco haunted the theater for many nights until after Oh! Calcutta!, a musical that feature extensive full frontal male and female nudity played there, that the ghost stopped appeared.
How to reach Belasco Theatre
Take the B, D, F or V train to the 42nd Street / Bryant Park subway station. Walk north along Sixth Avenue until intersection with West 44th Street. Turn left and walk along West 44th Street until you see Belasco Theatre on your right.Return to New York City Attractions
