Broken Arrow is the largest suburb of Tulsa, Oklahoma. It is located primarily in Tulsa County, with a smaller section in Wagoner County. The city covers 45.6 sq mi (118.1 sq km) and has a population of 100,000 people (2011 estimate), within the Tulsa metropolitan area which has some 940,000 inhabitants.

Broken Arrow was established by the Muscogee, a group of Native American people also known as the Creek. They relocated to Oklahoma after being ousted from their original settlement in Alabama to follow the Trail of Tears. They named it Rekackv, which is Creek for "broken arrow". That settlement was to the south of present-day Broken Arrow.

The modern city of Broken Arrow dates to 1902, when the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad sold the land to the Arkansas Valley Town Site company to establish a town. The town of Broken Arrow came into being in 1903. It was just a small town until the 1960s, when the urban sprawl of Tulsa turned it into a suburban city.

Broken Arrow served as a bedroom community for those working in Tulsa. In recent years, however, the city leaders are pushing for more amenities within Broken Arrow so that the residents can shop and dine there, without going to Tulsa.

Oklahoma Route 51 (aka Broken Arrow Expressway) is the main highway connecting Tulsa with Broken Arrow.
