Canyon de Chelly National Monument is a national monument in Arizona managed by the National Park Service. It is located within the boundaries of the Navajo Nation, in northeastern Arizona.
Canyon de Chelly National Monument preserves the ruins of the early Native American tribes that lived in the area, including the Anasazi and the Navajo. The site covers 131 sq mi (339 sq km) and encompasses three canyons namely de Chelly, del Muerto and Monument.

Canyon de Chelly National Monument is unique as it is the only national monument of the United States to be located entirely within Navajo Tribal Trust Land, even though it is managed by the National Park Service.
Visiting Canyon de Chelly National Monument, Arizona
From Flagstaff, take Interstate 40 east and then Route 191 north until Chinle. The visitor center is 3 miles (4.8 km) from Route 191 in Chinle. The center is open year round - unless there is severe weather - from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm except Christmas Day. Admission to Canyon de Chelly National Monument is free, but donations are appreciated.Most visitors come by car and view Canyon de Chelly from the rim. From up there, you can look down towards the ancient ruins and geologic structures. With the exception to the White House Ruin Trail, access to the canyon floor is restricted. There are however authorized independent tour companies offering guided tours of the canyon floor which you can book on your own.
