Castle Clinton is a fort surrounded by Battery Park, in Manhattan, New York City. It is a circular sandstone fort completed in 1811. It was built after the Americans realised they needed a fort to defend the southern tip of Manhattan. This was after they had demolished Fort Amsterdam that had stood a short distance away.

It is intended to complement Castle Williams on Governors Island. It was called West Battery while Castle Williams was called East Battery. Castle Clinton was built as tension mounted with the British forces that led to the War of 1812. But it never saw any action in that or any war.
