Cedar Falls is a small city in Black Hawk County in northeastern Iowa. It covers 28.9 sq mi (74.8 sq km) and has a population of 39,000 people (2011 estimate). The city, which was founded in 1845 by William Sturgis, got its name due to its proximity to the Cedar River. Today the city is within the Waterloo-Cedar Falls metropolitan area. Waterloo is to the southeast of Cedar Falls.
