City Hall of New York City is located in City Hall Park in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Built in 1811, it is the oldest City Hall in the United States that is still being used for its original functions. The City Hall has the office of the Mayor of New York City and the chambers of the New York City Council.

A short distance from City Hall is the Manhattan Municipal Building, which houses the office of the thirteen municipal agencies of the city.

The present City Hall is today a National Historic Landmark, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Both its exterior and interior were also designated as New York City landmarks in 1966 and 1976 respectively.

The present City Hall building was designed by the architectural firm of Mangin and McComb. Since then, it has undergone a number of alternations in 1860, 1898, 1903, 1907, 1912, 1915, 1917, 1956 and 1998. The building is in the French Renaissance style while the interior was done in the American Georgian style. Inside the building is the Governor's room, which has hosted receptions for famous people including the Marquis de Lafayette and Albert Einstein.

Getting there

Take the N or R train to the City Hall Subway Station. You can also take the 4, 5, 6 or 6X train to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall Subway Station.
