The Civic Center is the place in Manhattan where the courthouses of the city, state and federal governments are located. Within the Civic Center, which is near the South Street Seaport, you will find, among others, the New York County Courthouse and the US Courthouse. The New York County Courthouse was built in 1926 while the US Courthouse, in the shape of a 31 storey building topped with a pyramid, in 1933.

Also located within the Civic Center is the Tweed Courthouse. It was built by the notorious Boss Tweed, who turned out to be a rather corrupt politician. It is now being restored to house the Museum of the City of New York. Among the nearby sights include the Woolworth Building, the City Hall and the Municipal Building.
