Corpus Christi is the biggest city located on the south coast of Texas. Spread across Nueces County, San Patricio County and Aransas County, Corpus Christi covers 460.2 sq mi (1,192 sq km). The city population is around 300,000 (2011 estimate). It is within a metropolitan area with around 420,000 people.
Corpus Christi was founded in 1839 by Colonel Henry Lawrence Kinney. Its name comes from Latin, meaning Body of Christ. It began as a small trading post to equip the Mexican revolutionary army.
