The Daily News Building is an Art-Deco style skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Located at 220 East 42nd Street, the 476-foot 37-storey skyscraper has vertical stripes of windows separated by brown brick in the spandrels between the windows. The building is the headquarters of the Daily News, a newspaper that was founded in 1919, which within 6 years has grown to be selling a million copies.
The Daily News Building was designed in 1930 by architect Raymond Hood, who later also designed Rockefeller Center. You can see similarities in the style of both buildings.
The deco and style of the Daily News Building is the model for the fictional newspaper Daily Planet, where Superman worked as the journalist Clark Kent.
How to reach the Daily News Building
Take the 7 train to the Grand Central subway station, or the 4, 5, 6 or S train to the Grand Central / 42nd Street subway station. Walk east along East 42nd Street until you see the Daily News Building on the right side of the street.Return to New York City Attractions
