Fayetteville is the third largest city in Arkansas. It covers 44.5 sq mi (115.2 sq km) and has a population of 77,000 (2011 estimate). The city is also the county seat of Washington County. It is within the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers metropolitan area which has a combined population of 424,000.

Fayetteville is located in the Ozark Mountains. The city is at an elevation of 1,400 ft (427 m). It experiences a humid subtropical climate, with influences of the humid continental climate.
