The General Theological Seminary in Manhattan, New York City, is the oldest seminary of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America (ECUSA). It is located at 175 9th Avenue.

Also known as GTS, the General Theological Seminary was founded in 1817. Its construction was supported by donations from parishioners at the Trinity Church and the Church of St Luke-in-the-Fields. This is where students are trained for the Episcopal priesthood. Within the grounds of the seminary is the Chapel of the Good Shepherd, completed in 1888. It has a set of 15 tubular bells which are the oldest existing in the country still used to call the community to worship. The General Theological Seminary follows a moderate-to-liberal cause on issues of morality and theology, as espoused by the ECUSA.

How to reach the General Theological Seminary

Take the C or E train to the 23rd Street subway station. Walk south along Eighth Avenue until intersection with W 21st Street. Turn right and walk west along W 21st Street until you reach GTS on the left, after intersection of 9th Avenue.
