Gracie Mansion is a historical building in the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1799 as the official residence of the mayor of New York City.

Gracie Mansion, which is regarded as the most handsome Federal house left in New York, was built by a wealthy merchant named Archibald Gracie. It was acquired by the city of New York in 1887, and was the first home of the Museum of the City of New York. It became the mayor's official residence in 1942. However, when Fiorello LaGuardia moved into it, preferring the mansion of the 75-room palace on Riverside Drive, he still found it too fancy.
How to reach Gracie Mansion
Gracie Mansion is located on Carl Schurz Park, along East End Avenue, across from 88th Street.Take the 4, 5 or 6 train to the 86th Street Station. Walk east along 86th Street until you reach East End Avenue. Turn left, walk north along East End Avenue until the junction with 88th Street. Cross East End Avenue to Carl Schurz Park, and you will see Gracie Mansion within the park.
