 Gramercy and the Flatiron District, New York
Gramercy and the Flatiron District are two neighborhoods in Manhattan, New York City.
Gramercy was laid out to follow the quiet residential neighborhoods of European cities. One of the focal points of the neighborhood is Gramercy Park, which is surrounded by handsome townhouses.
In the middle of the Gramercy neighborhood is Gramercy Park. Covering an area of 2 acres (0.8 hectares), it is one of the two private parks in Manhattan. Only people living around the park and paying maintenance for the park have keys to enter it. The fenced-up park is surrounded by sidewalks popular among joggers.
The Flatiron District is named after the famous Flatiron Building. It is a neighborhood bounded by 20th Street, Union Square, Greenwich Village to the south, the Avenue of the Americas, Chelsea to the west, 25th Street and NoMad to the north, Rose Hill to the northeast, and Lexington Avenue and Gramercy Park to the east. Broadway cuts through the Flatiron District, resulting in the awkwardly size plots of land that creates traffic islands. In the Flatiron District are boutiques, cafés and high-rise apartments.
