Grauman's Chinese Theatre (map) is one of the most famous landmarks in Hollywood. Located at 6925 Hollywood Boulevard, the building is a Hollywood response to Chinese architecture, with its own stylized flamboyance in recreating elements from Chinese temples and pagodas.
Created by Sid Grauman, the theatre was built over 18 months from January 1926 and opened in 1927 with the premiere of Cecil B DeMille's movie, The King of Kongs. Since then it has also staged many other premieres, including that of Star Wars in 1977 and three Academy Award ceremonies.

Grauman's Chinese Theatre is also equally famous for the autographed cement blocks at its forecourt bearing the signatures and markings of many of Hollywood's most revered stars. According to Hollywood legend, the tradition began when screen star Norma Talmadge accidentally stepped on wet cement during a gala opening. In any case, there are now some 200 handprints, footprints and autographs of Hollywood celebrities at the theater's forecourt today.
The Grauman's Chinese Theatre is still being used for movie premieres usually for invited guest only. Hence the general public do not usually get a chance to see the interior.
