Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument is a fossil site in Twin Falls County and Gooding County, Idaho. Covering 4,351 acres (17.6 sq km), it contains the highest concentration of Hagerman Horse fossils in North America. In fact the horse fossils are all found within one area, the Hagerman Horse Quarry. The site is also significant in that it has the richest known fossil deposits from the late Pliocene epoch, which is from about 3.5 million years ago.

The fossils uncovered at Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument provide an idea about the plants and animals that existed before the Ice Age. This allows scientists to make a comparison with modern plants and animals.

Visiting Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument, Idaho

The Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument is presently closed to the public following the September 2010 fire. The visitor center is still open to the public. It is located along US Highway 30 in the town of Hagerman, across from the Hagerman High School. See location map here. It is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm until 30 September, and Thursday through Monday from 5 October until 29 May.
