Hialeah is a city in Miami-Date County in Florida. It covers 19.7 sq mi (51.51 sq km) and has a population of 230,000 (2011 estimate), making it the sixth largest city in Florida.

Located within the Miami metropolitan area, Hialeah is also said to be the most densely populated American city to be without a skyscraper. It is also the city with the second highest percentage of ethnic Cubans of any city in the country.

Hialeah has a rather recent history, going back to just 1921, when it was established by pioneer aviator Glenn Curtiss and cattleman James H. Bright. The city was incorporated in 1925. Hialeah was a recreational suburb for Miami, a place for horse racing, greyhound racing and jai-alai.

In the late 1950's, Hialeah became a refuge for elite Cuban exiles who voted against Fidel Castro "with their feet", transforming the city into a major Cuban neighborhood.

Today Hialeah is home to a number of big retailers such as Walmart, The Home Depot, Target and Best Buy. Nonetheless its lack of character led it to be listed in the January 2009 Forbes Magazine as one of the most boring cities in the United States.

Hialeah is located to the northwest of downtown Miami. It is reached on Florida 924 Toll Road to the north and Palmetto Expressway to the west.
