Hotel Roosevelt Tourist Information, Hollywood
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (map) is a historic Spanish style hotel in Hollywood. It was built by a group of financiers including Douglas Fairbanks Jr., Mary Pickford and Louis B. Mayer, and named in honor of Theodore Roosevelt. The hotel first opened on May 15, 1927. In 1929 it hosted the very first banquet and presentation ceremony of the Academy Awards.
The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel underwent a major renovation in 2005. This added a Tropicana poolside bar called Teddy's, which has become a Hollywood hotspot for the latest young stars to party.
Marilyn Monroe was a resident at the Hollywood Roosevelt for two years when her modeling career took off. Her first magazine shoot was taken on the diving board on the pool. The board has recently been removed. She stayed in Cabana 226 which over looked the pool side. A mirror which once hung in her room is now in the lobby and is thought to be haunted by her spirit. A number of people also claim to have seen her ghost dancing in the ballroom of the hotel. The hotel's pool contains a mural painted by David Hockney.
