Japan Society Japan Society is a non-profit non-political organization in New York City. It was founded in 1907 to foster closer understanding, appreciation and cooperation between the people of Japan and the United States.

The Japan Society is housed in a landmark building on E 47th Street. It wad the first building in New York City to be of modern Japanese architecture, and was designed by Tokyo architects Junzo Yoshimura and George Shimamoto. The building was opened in 1971. It has a 262-seat theater, an art gallery, and the renowened Toyota Language Center.

The Japan Society is open Tuesdays to Thursdays 11:00 am to 6:00 pm, Fridays 11:00 am to 9:00 pm, and on Saturdays and Sundays 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Their website is at www.japansociety.org.

How to reach the Japan Society

The Japan Society is at 333 East 47th Street. Take the 7 train to the Grand Central subway station. Walk north along Lexington Avenue until intersection with East 47th Street. Turn right, walk east along East 47th Street until you reach the Japan Society on your right.
