Laramie is a city in southeastern Wyoming. Covering 11.2 sq mi (28.9 sq km) it is also the county seat of Albany County. The city has a population of 31,000 (2011 estimate). It is located on the Laramie River, 41 mi (66 km) west of Cheyenne and 113 mi (182 km) north of Denver, Colorado.

Laramie is 7,165 ft (2,184 m) above sea level. It is on a high plain between the Snowy mountain range and the Laramie mountain range. The city has a semi-arid climate. The hottest month is July, when the average high temperature reaches 79.4°F (26.3°C). Coldest month is January, when the average low temperature dips to 7.8°F (-13.4°C). Laramie doesn't get much rain throughout the year. Its annual precipitation is only 11.19 in (284.2 mm), from 26 days of rainy days. The wettest month is July, which gets 1.53 in (38.9 mm) of rain.

Laramie was named after French trapper Jacques LaRamie, who disappeared in the Laramie Mountains area in the 1810's and was never seen again. His name lives on in the river and the city, along with numerous other landmarks in Wyoming, for the simple reason that he was the first European to have arrived there.

The city of Laramie was established in the mid-1860's. It began as a settlement on the Overland Stage Line, until the Union Pacific Railroad was built there in 1868. The University of Wyoming was established in Laramie in 1886. It gained worldwide notoriety in 1998 when a gay student of the university, Matthew Shepard, was murdered. This led to greater attention being paid on hate crimes targetting homosexuals.

Laramie is on Interstate 80, which connects it to Cheyenne to the east and Salt Lake City to the west. The Laramie Regional Airport (LAR) receives flights from Denver International Airport, the main commercial airport in that region.
