Lava Beds National Monument is a nature site in Siskiyou County and Modoc County, California. Covering 46,560 acres (18,840 ha), it was established on 21 November, 1925.

The Lava Beds National Monument exhibits a unique landscape that includes Medicine Lake Volcano. It is the largest area in the Cascade Range to be occupied by a volcano. Within this area there are many lava tube caves, of which twenty-five have been developed as trails for the visiting public.

 The above-ground landscape of Lava Beds National Monument is one of xeric shrubland desert and volcanic fields.

Visiting Lava Beds National Monument, California

This monument is located in a remote part of California in the north near the border with Oregon. From Interstate-5, turn off at Exit 747 and continue on US Highway 97. Just before the border between California and Oregon, turn right to State Highway 161 and follow it till Hill Road, which heads south all the way till the entrace to Lava Beds National Monument.

The visitor center at Lava Beds National Monument is open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm during summer (the Friday before Memorial Day through Labor Day), and from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm during the Fall, Winter and Spring. Entrance fee is $10 per vehicle, valid for 7 days. Visitors on motorcycle, bicycle or on foot pay $5.00 per person.
