Lincoln Memorial is a famous memorial in Washington DC. It is built in the form of a Greek Doric temple. The memorial is located on the Las Vegas Strip. Within the memorial is a colossal statue of Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. The president is shown in a seated position. Two of his most famous speeches are inscribed on the memorial as well, namely The Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address.
The Lincoln Memorial is regarded as a totally original example of neoclassical architecture. It marks the terminus of the National Mall, which forms the main core of Washington, DC. Although a memorial has been proposed for that spot as early as the time of Lincoln's birth, the idea remained dormant until the turn of the 20th century. The project went into full swing around 1913.

The statue of Abraham Lincoln was carved by the Piccirilli Brothers, under the supervision of master sculptor Daniel Chester French. It is 19 ft (5.8 m) in height, from head to foot. It was carved out of white marble from Georgia. It sits on a pedestal of Tennessee marble measuring 10 ft (3 m) high, 16 ft (4.9 m) wide and 17 ft (5.2 m) deep.
The Lincoln Memorial was unveiled on May Day, 1922, when it was dedicated and presented to President Warren G. Harding, who accepted it on before of the American people. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on 15 October, 1966.

The Lincoln Memorial appears on the reverse of the United States one-cent coin as well as on the back of the United States five-dollar bill, which also bears the portrait of Abraham Lincoln in front.
