About Little Rock

Little Rock is the capital as well as biggest city in the state of Arkansas. The name is derived from a small rock formation on the southern bank of the Arkansas River. The city has a population of 192,000 people, with a metropolitan population of 685,000.

The area around Little Rock has seen evidence of Native American habitation going back thousands of years before the arrival of the first European settlers. The place was reportedly named la Petite Roche, which is Little Rock in French, by explorer Jean-Baptiste Benard de la Harpe.
