Manhattan Bridge (see map) is one of the suspension bridges across the East River. It links Canal Street in Lower Manhattan with flatbush Avenue Extension in Brooklyn, on Long Island. It was the last of the three suspension bridges built across the lower East River, following Brooklyn Bridge and Williamsburg Bridge.

Manhattan Bridge is 6,855 ft (2,089 m) long and has a width of 120 ft (37 ft). Its towers are each 336 ft (102 m) tall. Construction began in 1901, and it was opened to traffic on December 31, 1909. The bridge was designed and built by Polish bridge engineer Ralph Modjeski with the deflection cables designed by Leon Moisseiff, who later designed the infamous Galloping Gertie (the original Tacoma Narrows Bridge opened and collapsed in 1940).

The Manhattan Bridge has four vehicle lanes on the upper level while on the lower level, there are another three lanes of traffic along with four subway tracks, a walkway and a bikeway. The upper level was originally used for streetcars. It now provides two lanes of traffic flow in each direction. On the lower level is only one way of three-lane traffic that follows the peak hour direction. There are no toll charges for using the bridge.
