More on Molokai
Molokai is created by two shield volcanoes. They are East Molokai Volcano and West Molokai Volcano. The highest point on the island, Kamakou, is part of East Molokai. It stands at 4,970 ft (1,510 m).
Molokai on the whole receives a lot of rain, averaging about 300 in (7,600 mm) every year. This allows it to suppose dense, lush vegetation. The island is home to many plants and animal species that are endemic to Molokai. Unlike Oahu, Molokai has so far resisted attempts to commercialize its sights. Local opposition to commercialization however has a drawback: the island has Hawaii's highest unemployment rate. Nevertheless, this environment consciousness has allowed Molokai to preserve its pristine beauty.
