The Morgan Library & Museum is a museum and research library at 225 Madison Avenue, Manhattan, New York City. Formerly known as The Pierpont Morgan Library, it is housed in a magnificent palazzo-style building which was designed in 1902.

The Morgan Library & Museum houses the private collection of the prominent banker, John Pierpont Morgan, better known as J.P. Morgan (1837-1913), who was a great collector of art, books and gemstones during his time. The library and museum was established by his son, J.P. Morgan Jr in 1924.

The Morgan Library & Museum complex is composed of the original library and the house of J.P. Morgan Jr. Visitors can view the study belong to J.P. Morgan Sr, his private library, with his favorite paintings, art objects, and other priceless acquisitions.

Among the treasures of the Morgan Library & Museum are one of the 11 surviving copies of the Gutenburg Bible, printed in 1455, as well as six sheets of score for Mozart's Horn Concerto in E-flat Major which was written in different colored ink.

How to reach the Morgan Library & Museum

Morgan Library & Museum is at Madison Avenue, between 36th and 37th Streets. You can take the 6 train to the 33rd St station, or the 7 train to the 5th Avenue station, or the 4, 5, 6, 7 and S trains to the Grand Central-42nd Street Station.

When to visit the Morgan Library & Museum

It is open daily at different times, usually from 10:30 am to 6:00 pm, with extended hours on some days, and closed on Mondays, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year Day.
