Mystic Seaport, (map) also called the Museum of American and the Sea, is the biggest maritime museum in the United States. It is located in the village of Mystic in Connecticut.

The Mystic Seaport was established as the Marine Historical Association in 1929. It cemented its postion as a major maritime museum when it purchased the Charles W. Morgan, the only surviving wooden sailing whaler, in 1941. Since then, the museum has continued to grow its collection of vessels.

In addition to the Charles W. Morgan, three other ships at the museum are also National Historic Landmarks. They are the L.A. Dunton fishing schooner, the Emma C. Berry Noank smack and Sabino, an island steamer.

The other vessels at Mystic Seaport include the sandbagger sloop Annie, the coasting schooner Australia, the catboat Breck Marshall, the auxiliary schooner Brilliant, the Friendship Sloop Estella A., the dragger Florence, the Lighthouse tender Gerda III, the training ship Joseph Conrad, the oyster/shoal-draft sloop Nellie, the carry-away sloop Regina M., and the fishing vessel Star.

Also within the Mystic Seaport is the Preservation Shipyard. This is where visitors can observe how traditional tools and techniques are used to restore and preserve the vessels of the museum. It was here that the ship Amistad was recreated.
