The New York Times Building is a skyscraper in the Times Square area of Midtown Manhattan, New York City. Planning for the building began in 2001. It was constructed from 2003 to 2007, with tenants began moving in around mid 2007.

The New York Times Building is cruciform in plan, and built with a steel frame occupying a 80,000 square foot site. It is 748 feet (228 meters) tall from street level to roof. However its exterior curtain wall extends a further 92 feet (28 meters) to make it appear 840 feet (256 meters) tall. In addition, it has a mast that brings its height to 1,046 feet (319 meters).

At time of writing (March 2010, updated Nov 2011), the New York Times Building is still the fourth tallest building in New York City after the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building, but will soon be overtaken by 1 World Trade Center.

How to reach the New York Times Building

Take the A, C or E train to the 42nd Street / Port Authority Bus Terminal subway station. Walk south along Eighth Avenue, and you will reach the New York Times Building after the 41st Street intersection.
