More on Norwalk CT

The name Norwalk is said to have been derived from the indigenous Algonquian tribe which called it Naramauke. It is also believed to have come from the Algonquian word "noyank" meaning "point of land". Norwalk experiences hot, humid summers and cold snowny winters. The hottest month is July, when the average high temperature reaches 84°F (28.9°C). Coldest month is January, with average low temperature of 19°F (-7.2°C). Rain is fairly evenly spread throughout the year.

Norwalk traces its beginnings to 1640, when the land was bought by Roger Ludlow. The town of Norwalk was chartered in 1651. The town was the site of skirmishes between the British and the settlers, leading to the creation of the song "Yankee Doodle", whose lyrics were created by the British supposedly to mock the disheveled attire of the Connecticut troops. The song has however become a patriotic song in the United States, and even the state anthem of Connecticut.
