The NYSE Amex Equities traces its history to the 19th century, at a time when the construction and railroad industries created many new companies. These companies do not meet the requirements for listing on the New York Exchange Board, which mandated that organizations must have a minimum of 100 stocks in order to trade there.

A group of brokers began catering to these new companies that were traded outside the registered exchanges. The brokers became known as curbstone brokers, as they traded in the street. After oil was discovered, oil stocks were also traded in the curb market.
Effort to regulate this curbside trading began in the early 20th century. It led to the founding of the New York Curb Market Agency in 1908 to codify trading practices. By 1911, the curbstone brokers got a new name, as the New York Curb Market. The brokers finally got to move indoors in 1921 when a building on Greenwich Street was used for this purpose. In 1929, it changed its name to the New York Curb Exchange.
Amex Equities was located at 86 Trinity Place until 2008, when it moved to the NYSE Trading floor at 11 Wall Street.

Take the 4 or 5 train to the Wall Street Subway Station or the J or Z train to the Broad Street Subway Station and walk towards Wall Street from there.
