More on Ogden

Ogden experiences a hot summer continental climate, meaning summers here are hot and dry while winters cold and snowy. July is the hottest month. That's when the average high temperature rises to 90°F (32.2°C). January is the coldest month, with average low temperature of 20.1°F (-6.6°C). The place is semi-arid. Annual precipitation is only 23.67 in (601.2 mm).

The history of Ogden goes back to 1846, when trapper Miles Goodyear established Fort Buenaventura, the first European settlement in Utah. The site was purchased by Mormon settlers, and renamed Brownsville, after Captain James Brown. The settlement was later renamed again, to Ogden, after a brigade leader of the Hudson's Bay Company, Peter Skene Ogden.

Ogden served as a major railroad junction. The First Transcontinental Railroad passes through here from San Francisco towards eastern United States. The city was historically the second largest city in Utah until the 1980s, when some of the suburbs of Salt Lake City and Provo surpassed it in size.
