Overland Park is the second most populous city in Kansas after Wichita. It covers 75.3 sq mi (195.1 sq km) and has a population of 174,000 people (2011 estimate). The city is located in Johnson County, to the southwest of Kansas City, and is in fact a suburb within the Kansas City metropolitan area.

The history of Overland Park goes back to 1905, when the town was founded by William B. Strang Jr. He bought the land along the military roadway and developed it into a township. It became a city on May 20, 1960.

Overland Park experiences a humid continental climate with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. The hottest month is July, when the average high temperature rises to 88.7°F (31.5°C). Coldest month is January, when the average low temperature dips to 20.8°F (-6.2°C). June is the wettest month, receiving 5.8 in (147 mm) of precipitation.

The I-35, I-635 and I-435 are some of the Interstate highways linking Overland Park with Kansas City and other parts of the country. You can also fly to Kansas City International Airport and drive from there to Overland Park 45 minutes away.

    This is a garden and petting zoo with a number of farm animals.

  2. Overland Park Arboretum and Botanical Gardens
    Located on 179th Street, this is a landscaped garden which opened in 1996. Today it has a variety of gardens featuring cascading water, ponds, and well-tended flowering plants. Also found here is the Native American Medicine Wheel, which represent the cycle of life from birth to death.
