Queensboro Bridge Queensboro Bridge is a cantilever bridge across the East River in New York City. It connects to 59th Street on the Manhattan end (hence its other name, the 59th Street Bridge), to Queens Boulevard, in the Long Island City neighbourhood of Queens. The bridge passes over Roosevelt Island. It carries New York State Route 25.

Construction of the Queensboro Bridge began in 1903, but the bridge was only completed in 1909. It has a total length of 3,724 feet (1,135.2 meters). The bridge has a width of 100 feet (30 meters). It has a maximum clearance of 130 feet (40 meters) above the river. The clearance is 12 feet from road level.

After years of use, the Queensboro Bridge had suffered from tremendous decay and corrosion, requiring a renovation work that began in 1987, and is still in progress. So far, the renovation work has cost US$300 million.

How to reach the Queensboro Bridge

Take the 4, 5 or 6 train to the 59th Street - Lexington Avenue subway station. Walk east along East 59th Stret until you reach the Queensboro Bridge.
