Quincy is the eighth largest city in Massachusetts, USA. The city is located to the south of downtown Boston and is within the Boston metropolitan area. It covers 26.9 sq mi (69.6 sq km) and has a population of 92,000 people (2011 estimate).

Quincy is often called the "City of Presidents", as it is the birthplace of two former US presidents, namely John Adams and John Quincy Adams. The city is however named after Colonel John Quincy, after whom John Quincy Adams was also named.The area around Quincy was inhabited by Native American tribes until the arrival of Europeans in 1621. An early settlement in the area established by Captain Wollaston is remembered today with the Wollaston neighborhood of Quincy.

Quincy was first incorporated as part of Dorchester in 1630. Then in 1634 it was added to Boston. Following that, the village was renamed Braintree. The present city of Quincy began to take shape in the early 18th century. It was only officially incorporated as a separate town from Braintree in 1792.
In the 19th century Quincy's economy was built on stone quarrying and shipbuilding. The town had the first iron furnace in the country. Many warships were built here, and according to popular legend, the Kilroy Was Here graffiti originated with John J. Kilroy, a welding inspector at a Quincy shipyard.
