Rawlins is a small city in Carbon County, in south-central Wyoming. It covers 7.4 sq mi (19.2 sq km) and has a population of 9,300 people (2012 estimate). The town is 6,834 ft (2,083 m) above sea level.

Rawlins was named Union General John Aaron Rawlins, who camped in the area in 1882. There he found a spring with the "best water he had ever tasted". The town of Rawlins was incorporated as a city in 1886.
