More on Rehoboth Beach DE
As with Bethany Beach to the south, Rehoboth Beach was started as a Christian retreat in the late 19th century. It was proposed by Rev. Robert W Todd of St Paul's Methodist Episcopal Church of Wilmington, Delaware. The site was originally intended as a place for a Methodist retreat. The name Rehoboth came from the Bible (Genesis 26:22, Genesis 36:37 and 1 Chronicles 1:48), meaning "space for all".
Rehoboth Beach today brands itself as "The Nation's Summer Capital", since it is a popular destination for people coming from Washington DC. It has come a long way from its early Christian beginnings, and today is one of the popular gay and lesbian getaways on the mid-Atlantic coast.
