The Russian Tea Room is a restaurant at 150 West 57th Street in Midtown Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 1927 by former members of the Russian Imperial Ballet, hence the name. The restaurant became a watering hole for Russian expatriates and people in the entertainment industry.
The original Russian Tea Room was located across the street, at 145 West 57th Street. It moved to its present location in 1929. The Russian Tea Room has faced several financial crises in the last few decades. It closed in 1996, reopened in 2000, then closed again in 2002. It reopened again on 1 November, 2006.
Although the flamboyant deco is the same as when it closed in 2002, the food is not, and that received negative attention from restaurant reviews.
How to reach the Russian Tea Room
Take the N, Q, R or W train to the 57th Street subway station. Walk east along West 57th Street until you see the Russian Tea Room on your right. Alternatively, take the F train to the 57th Street subway station and walk west along West 57th Street to see the Russian Tea Room on your left.Return to New York City Attractions
