Saratoga Springs is a city in Saratoga County, New York State. It covers 29 sq mi (75.2 sq km) and has a population of 28,500. The name got its name from the mineral springs found in the area. The name Saratoga is believed to be of Native American origin. However, there is no certainty over the meaning of the name.

Saratoga Springs is today a resort town. It is particularly famous for the Saratoga Race Course, the oldest organized sporting venue of any kind in the United States. It still holds faces from late July through early September.

The other major draw of Saratoga Springs are the mineral springs. Tere are quite a number within the Saratoga Springs area. The mineral water of the springs is believed to have therapeutic properties. As such a number of spa resorts operate in Saratoga Springs, among them Lincoln Baths and Roosevelt Baths.

The history of Saratoga Springs goes back to 1691, when Fort Saratoga was erected on the west bank of the Hudson River. Then in 1767, some Native Americans brought British war hero Sir William Johnson to a spring area, to treat the wounds he sustained on the battlefield. It led to the area becoming known as Saratoga Springs. That particular spring where Sir William washed his wounds is known today as High Rock Spring.

Saratoga Springs is located to the north of Albany. Interstate 87 runs north-south passing through Saratoga Spring. It is 45 minutes north of Albany and four hours north of New York City.
