Seagram Building is a Modernist skyscraper in the Upper Midtown neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. It has 38 storeys and stands at 516 feet (157 meters) tall. Completed in 1958, the Seagram Building is regarded as a masterpiece of corporate modernism. The International style in which it was built had tremendous impact on American architecture.
The owner of the Seagram Building was Samuel Bronfman, the late head of Seagram distillers. He had intended to erect an ordinary commercial building when his daughter Phyllis Lambert, persuaded him to use Mies van der Rohe, to design the most modern building of its time. The result is a skyscraper that consists of two rectangles of bronze and glass.
Within the Seagram Building is the Four Seasons Restaurant, another New York City landmark. Its interiors have been maintained unchanged since it opened in 1959.
