 Society of Illustrators, New York City
The Society of Illustrators is a society that runs an art museum on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. It was formed to promote the illustrator's art. The roster of the Society of Illustrators included Charles Dana Gibson, N.C. Wyeth and Howard Pyle.
The Society of Illustrators in the beginning involved itself with the education of the public on illustration, holding a numebr of exhibitions. In 1981 it opened the Museum of American Illustration. The museum has two galleries with changing themes showing the history of book and magazine illustration. Once a year it holds an exhibition of the year's finest American illustrations.
How to reach the Society of Illustrators
The Society of Illustrators is located at 128 E 63rd Street. Take the F train to the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street subway station. Walk west on E 63rd Street to find the society on the left side of the road.
