Sony Building is a skyscraper in Upper Midtown, New York City. It was formerly known as the AT&T Building. Its address is 550 Madison Avenue, and it is located between 55th Street and 56th Street.

The Sony Building is 197 meters (647 feet) tall, and has 37 storeys. The building has an enormous arched entranceway that is seven storeys tall. But most famous of all, is its ornamental roof, often compared to a Chippendale cupboard.

The Sony Building originally belonged to AT&T, which built in between 1978 and 1984. It was leased to Sony 1992, and then in 2002 Sony bought it from AT&T for US$236 million, equivalent to $315 per square foot.

How to reach the Sony Building

Take the E or V subway trains to the 5th Avenue/53rd Street Station. Walk east along East 53rd Street until intersection with Madison Avenue. Turn left, walk north along Madison Avenue until you see the Sony Building on your left, after the intersection with East 55th Street.
