Squadron A Armory is a historical building on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Located between Madison Avenue and Park Avenue, between 94th and 95th Street, it is also called the Madison Avenue Armory.

Armories were once an important feature in New York City in the 19th century. Along with the Eighth Regiment Armory, the Squadron A Armory is an example of these fortifications that are found in New York City, particularly along Park Avenue.

Squadron A Armory was designed by John R Thomas and built in 1895. Part of it was demolished in the 1960s. The remainder is now part of Hunter College High School. The façade facing Madison Avenue has been added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Today Squadron A Armory forms the western wall of the playground of Hunter High School. The school was designed to blend in with the style of the armory.

Getting there

Take the 4, 6 or 6X train to the 96th Street Subway Station. Head west on East 95th Street until intersection with Park Avenue, and you will see Hunter High School. The school walls are built to resemble the Armory. Continue down East 95th Street to Madison Avenue, to see the walls of the Squadron A Armory.
