St James' Church is a Roman Catholic Church at 32 James Street, in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It was built in 1837, and is the second oldest Catholic building in the city. Alfred E Smith, who was Governor of New York for four times, served as an altar boy there.
The St James' Church has a pair of Doric columns flanking its entrance. It is otherwise plain in design with an unadorbed pediment. It was almost demolished in 1986 but the community, especially the Irish-Catholic fraternal organisation called the Ancient Order of Hibernians, rallied to save it, and in the end it was preserved.
