Theodore Roosevelt Island is a small island on the Potomac River in Arlington, Virginia, across the river from Washington DC. It covers 88.5 acres (358,000 sq km). It is today a national memorial within the George Washington Memorial Parkway maintained by the National Park Service. The island is uninhabited with no vehicular traffic permitted on it. The only structures that are maintained on the island are the walkway, from which visitors can enjoy nature, and the plaza dedicated to President Theodore Roosevelt.

Theodore Roosevelt Island has been known by various names through history, among them My Lord's Island, Barbadoes Island, Mason's Island, Analostan Island and Anacostine Island. The oldest recorded name was Anacostine Island, given by the Nacotchtank Indians who settled there in 1668. It was claimed by Captain Randolph Brandt in 1682, and willed to his daughter Margaret Hammersley.

The island was then acquired by George Mason in 1724. It remained the possession of the Mason family until 1831. The island was uninhabited since then, except for a period during the Civil War, when Union troops were stationed there. It became the property of the Washington Gas Light Company in 1913. In 1931, it was bought by the Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Association with the intention of building a memorial there honoring Roosevelt. However, the project remained incomplte until 1960. The memorial was only dedicated on 27 October, 1967.

To the south of Theodore Roosevelt Island is another smaller island, simply known as Little Island.
