Vermont has a population of just over 600,000 people. It is the second least populated state in the U.S. Its capital is Montpelier while its biggest city is Burlington. It was known as the Vermont Republic before it attained statehood on 4 March, 1791 - it was the 14th state to gain admission to Union. Vermont is in the Eastern time zone (-5/-4 GMT). Its abbreviation is VT.

The main airport serving Vermont is the Burlington Airport (BTV) a small domestic airport. If you are arriving from overseas, you should transit at any of the major U.S. airport to Burlington.

By Road
The two main interstate highways serving Vermont are I-91 and I-89. I-91 follows the border with New Hampshire in the north-south direction all the way to the border of Canada. I-89 cuts diagonally across Vermont, passing through Montpellier.

By Train
Amtrak runs two train services to Vermont. The Vermonter is a daily service that links Washington, D.C. and New York City with nine towns in Vermont. Ethan Allen Express is another daily service to Vermont from New York City.
