Washington Mews, New York City
Washington Mews is the name of a gated private street in the Greenwich Village area of Manhattan, New York City. It is located north of Washington Square Park, between Fifth Avenue and University Place.
The houses on the north side of the street were originally stables which were converted into living quarters at the turn of the 20th century. Those on the south side were built much later, around the 1930's. One of its occupants was Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, founder of the Whitney Museum.
How to reach the Washington Mews
You can entger Washington Mews from both Fifth Avenue as well as University Place. I would suggest taking the R or W train to the Eighth Street/NYU subway station. Walk west along E 8th Street until intersection with University Place. Turn left and walk south down University Place until you see the gate of Washington Mews on your right.
