Whitefish is a city in Flathead County, in northwestern Montana. It covers 4.5 sq mi (11.5 sq km) and has a population of 5,000 people (2011 estimate). The city is 3,028 ft (923 m) above sea level.

More on Whitefish
As with the many other cities in Montana, Whitefish established and prospered because of the Great Northern Railway, which was built through it in 1904. In the early days, Whitefish was a logging town. Then in the late 1940s the Big Mountain ski resort was built, helping to usher in the tourism industry to the city.

US Highway 93 connects Whitefish to Kalispell, and from there with US Highway 2.
