The World Financial Center is an office complex at Battery Park City, across West Street from the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan in New York City, overlooking the Hudson River. This complex is home to offices of major corporations including Merrill Lynch, American Express, Deloitte & Touche, as well as Dow Jones and its Wall Street Journal division.

The World Financial Center was designed by César Pelli and was built by Olympia and York between 1985 and 1988 on landfill used to build Battery Park City. The material came from dirt excavated during the building of the World Trade Center, as well as garbage, dirt and debris.

The World Financial Center complex comprises four towers. One World Financial Center at 200 Liberty Street a 40-storey skyscraper with a square sloping top. Among its tenants are Deloitte & Touche and Dow Jones & Co. Two World Financial Center at 225 Liberty Street is a 44-storey tall skyscraper with a dome roof. Its tenants include Commerzbank, Deloitte & Touche and Merrill Lynch. Three World Financial Center at 200 Vessay Street is a 51 storey skyscraper with a pyramid roof. Its tenants include American Express. Four World Financial Center at 250 Vessay Street is a 34-storey skyscraper and is occupied entirely by Merrill Lynch.

Within the World Financial Center is the Winter Garden, public space of glass and steel flanked by shops and restaurants. It was severely damaged in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, but have since been reopened after significant repairs. Among its tenants include Banana Republic, The Gap, Starbucks and Hallmark.

There is also a 16-storey NYMEX building at 1 North End Avenue. Its tenants are the New York Merchantile Exchange and New York Board of Trade.

Getting there

Take the E train to the World Trade Center Subway Station and walk from there.
